Nelson Lakes National Park is fast becoming one of the most renowned hiking destinations in New Zealand. It is home to the Blue Lake – reportedly containing the clearest freshwater lake in the entire world! It is also home to one of the most impressive sections of New Zealand’s long distance Te Araroa Trail. Nelson Lakes has it all: forested valleys, pristine raging rivers, tranquil creeks, native trees, high alpine passes, and more. And it isn’t (yet) as crowded as many of New Zealand’s famous “Great Walks”.
If you are travelling around New Zealand’s South Island and are keen on hiking, then make sure that Nelson Lakes makes it onto your itinerary. In our Nelson Lakes & Blue Lake Hiking Guide we cover all the info you’ll need to make the most of your visit to this region.
