Best Cheap Laptop for Blogging
- Lenovo Ideapad 3
- HP 14z Home and Business Laptop
- Acer Aspire 5 Slim Laptop
- Lenovo 2-in-1 11.6″ Convertible Chromebook
- Microsoft Surface Go
1. Lenovo Ideapad 3
If a lightweight and powerful laptop is your preference, then have a look at the Lenovo Ideapad 3. The sleek laptop comes loaded with 8GB RAM, and none of your blogging tools will lag in it. Also, the 14” touch screen enables you to operate the laptop with added ease, and you don’t have to struggle with the touchpad.
The Lenovo Ideapad 3 has an Intel Pentium Gold 6405U 2.40GHz Dual-Core Processor, which is comparable to a 7th Gen i5 or an 8th Gen i3 series and the Windows 10 S operating system.
It’s a good amount of power for this price range of laptop. Photo editing should be OK, but video editing will have an element of laggyness. But in honesty, you’ll struggle to find a good video editing laptop at this price point.
The internal storage is a 128 SSD, so you may need an additional hard drive if you are doing a lot of image work.
At just 6 hours, the battery life is somewhat underwhelming. If you are out and about working with limited access to power, I tend to recommend 8 as a minimum, but you can get some pretty good portable laptop chargers in case of emergencies.
With 2 USB 3.0 ports, 1 USB 2.0, a Multi-format SD Media Card Reader as well as HDMI and audio ports, there are plenty of connectivity options for all of your accessories.
Overall, the Lenovo Ideapad 3 is a solid choice as a budget laptop for bloggers. While it is nothing flashy, for the price point, this is a steal. It comes with Windows 10 Professional 64-bit operating system, and with Dell, you know you will be getting a sturdy product.
- Plenty of ports for connectivity
- 8GB DDR4 ram
- Internal storage could be better
- Speaker quality isn’t that great
- 14.0" HD (1366 x 768) LED Backlit Anti-Glare Display
2. HP 14z Home and Business Laptop
There is no doubt why bloggers call the HP 14z one of the best laptops for the money, and that’s due to its great performance and simple, yet sleek appeal. This is the budget laptop you have been looking for as it has an amalgamation of a powerful processor and beautiful looks.
The option I have chosen is a laptop is powered with an AMD 3020e processor backed by a mighty 16GB RAM and a 256GB SSD harddrive. This is a great set up for beginner bloggers, although if you plan to be creating videos on your laptop, you’ll need a bit more power.
However, there are 12 different configurations to choose from. If you feel you need a bigger hard drive or maybe just 8GB RAM instead of 16, then you can tailor your choice and the price adjusts accordingly.
The 14” anti-glare screen gives a sharp picture quality, and you will never complain about anything. With the HP TrueVision HD Camera, you can make crystal clear video calls, and can even go live on your blogging page without using a secondary webcam.
- Superb audio quality
- Battery life is excellent
- HD webcam
- No optical drive
- Storage space is low
- AMD Ryzen 3 3200U Processor (2.60 GHz base clock, up to 3.50 GHz max boost clock, 4 MB Cache, 2 Cores) Smart dual-core, four-way processing performance for...
3. Acer Aspire 5 Slim Laptop
The Acer Aspire 5 is probably the best budget laptop on the market at the moment. It is a great choice if you are looking for a laptop that you will be spending a lot of time on and even has a spot in my list of best laptops for writers.
The size is a comfortable 15.6″, which makes it ideal for a home office or working in a café. If you travel a lot, I’d probably recommend looking at a 13.3″ machine, to save on weight, but if you are generally just moving between workplaces, then 15.6″ is a good option.
The specs of this computer are OK. It runs off of an AMD Ryzen 3 3200U-Series with 4GB of RAM and runs Windows S operating system.
It also has plenty of connectivity options with 1 USB 3.1 port, 2 USB 2.0 and space for an HDMI cable.
Overall this would be a great little machine to work away from home on, but it doesn’t have the performance to be much more than a basic blogging machine. If you want to create videos or edit large images, you may want to look for something a little more powerful.
- Nice touchscreen
- We love the 2-in-1 design
- Less storage space
- No hugely powerful
- AMD Ryzen 3 3200U Dual Core Processor (Up to 3.5GHz); 4GB DDR4 Memory; 128GB PCIe NVMe SSD
4. Lenovo 2-in-1 11.6″ Convertible Chromebook
Chromebooks offer stunning value when it comes to budget computers and the Lenovo 2-in-1 Convertible Chromebook is no exception, you can enjoy the true benefits of a blogging laptop. It is a convertible laptop, so working with it will be pretty fun and easy. This convertible laptop for bloggers has an 11.6″ HD screen, and it is a good option if you are always on the move.
Moreover, the touchscreen will let you give a shape to your thoughts as you can use this laptop for designing as well. The multimedia buttons available at the side will make it accessible to control the volume settings.
The best part about the Lenovo 2-in-1 Chromebook is that it boots up in seconds, and voila, you can start your work on the go. Talking about the processor, Lenovo Chromebook C330 comes with a MediaTek MT8173C Processor. The RAM is 4GB LPDDR3, and the storage space available with the laptop is around 32GB. You will need external memory.
We loved the 360-degree flexible hinge, and you can fold the laptop if you don’t need the keyboard at the moment. However, you need an external storage drive to keep the extra data.
- Supremely light in weight
- Impressive for managing pictures and videos
- Long battery life
- Comes with an HDMI port
- No backlit support
- You need an external storage drive all the time.
- 11. 6" HD (1366x768) 10-point Multi-touch IPS 300nits Anti-glare Display. Integrated PowerVR GX6250 Graphics
5. Microsoft Surface Go
I just wanted to throw in a bit of a wild card, something a little different for you to consider, a 2 in 1 detachable, that is slightly more tablet than laptop, but a great crossover.
When I was traveling through Africa and wrote my travel diary (you can get your free copy here), I wrote is using an iPad and a detachable keyboard. While iPads are more tablet than laptop, the Microsoft Surface Go is a great cross over.
While it’s not great if you want to do extensive photo editing if you are looking for something to take traveling with you, it can be a great option.
Weighing just 1.15 lbs, you’ll barely notice it in your backpack. It runs on Windows S and has a battery life of 9 hours.
The stunning 10” PixelSense Display with a touchscreen is great for working, browsing and even binge-watching a few Netflix episodes on those long, torturous bus journeys.
To get the most “laptoppy” feel, it is compatible with the Microsoft Mobile Mouse, although it is an additional purchase.
If you are looking for a super lightweight option, that is both effective and affordable, this could well be the right choice for you.
- Foldable screen
- HD audio speakers
- Comes with the multi-format digital media reader
- Premium design
- No optical drive
- Lacks in a backlit keyboard
- Old processor
- High res 10 inch PixelSense Display designed to be viewed, touched, and written on
Bonus tip: why not consider Amazon Renewed?
All of the above options are new laptops. While it is always great to have a brand spanking new machine, you can find some amazing options if you are willing to consider an Amazon Renewed device.
At the time of writing I have had a quick look and found a Toshiba Portege, 13.3 inches Laptop with an Intel Core i7-6600U processor, 8GB RAM and a 256GB Solid State Drive for $489. They are crazy specs for the money. There’s even an Apple MacBook Pro with an Intel Core i5-3210M and 8GB RAM for $499!
The great thing about buying Amazon Renewed over a private deal or maybe eBay is the product works and looks like new and is backed by the 90-day Amazon Renewed Guarantee. All of the products sold under this banner have been professionally inspected, tested and cleaned by Amazon-qualified suppliers.
