First of all, decide on rough size. Look at what kind of traveling you’ll be doing. Is it long-term for months at a time or regular, shorter trips? Then consider the type of travel, will it be mainly in and out of airports, if so look for one that is flight approved, or will it be mainly overland? If so, maybe get one a little bigger, but more secure and sturdy.
Once you have this worked out, look at comfort and straps. The more you use it, the more important this becomes.
